In a field of wildflowers, a young dandelion named Della looked at the garden across the fence. There, among the manicured beds, grew roses-tall, red, and fragrant. Bees swarmed around them. Children stopped to smell them. People took photographs.

"No one stops to look at me," Della sighed. "I'm just a weed."

She stretched her yellow petals, trying to look more like a rose. She stood as tall as she could. She even tried to make her scent sweeter. But nothing worked.

A wise old sunflower overheard her. "Why do you want to be a rose?" he asked.

"Because they're loved," Della said.

The sunflower laughed kindly. "You are loved too. By bees, by butterflies, by the wind that carries your seeds. You feed the birds in winter. You bring color to the field when nothing else blooms."

Della looked around. A bee was drinking her nectar. A butterfly rested on her leaf. In the distance, a child picked a dandelion puff and made a wish, blowing the seeds into the air.

"Every seed is a wish," the sunflower said. "That is your magic. Roses can't do that."

Della smiled. She stopped trying to be a rose. She bloomed where she was planted, yellow and bright, feeding the bees, dancing with the wind.

That autumn, her seeds flew across the field, carrying wishes to the sky.

And a little girl, holding a dandelion puff, closed her eyes and whispered, "I wish to always be myself."

The dandelion seed floated away, carrying the wish higher than any rose could ever reach.
